When Hiran and Akalanka were medical students at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, they noticed a recurring problem. Patients often presented with late-stage conditions that could have been prevented or whose progression could have been delayed with early intervention.
This was not because patients did not care about their health, but because they lacked health knowledge, as access to reliable health information was limited in Sri Lanka.
Most available content was either too technical, outdated, overly based on Western contexts, or simply untrustworthy. There was no single, reliable source that communicated essential medical insights accurately to everyday Sri Lankans, while also bridging the language barrier.
MedTalks was created to address this critical gap in healthcare. Launched in 2023, it has now grown into Sri Lanka’s most engaging health education platform, with a community of over 150,000 and a reach exceeding 2 million.
